Witchy essentials - Magical herbs and seeds

Many ancient cultures worked with herbs from shamans of Iraq where the oldest evidence of herbal use was discovered to the ancient Egyptians, Romans and Greeks. Herbs were for centuries used in many rituals and healing work. You can grow your own herbs and you can collect them in the wild.


Basil

Basil is associated with planet Mars, element of Fire/South and Goddess Aradia and Gods Vishnu, Loki and Ares. It is used in money and prosperity spells, spells for fortune-telling and finding inner strength. Fresh basil leaves or basil essential oil are great for stress related skin issues, it helps with digestions and helps ease stomach cramps. Basil tea helps with relaxation and sleep. It should be avoided during pregnancy.


Bay

Bay is associated with planet Jupiter, element of Fire/South and Goddesses Ceres and Delphi and God Apollo. It is used in success and wisdom spells and predicting future and wish come true spells. Dried bay leaves and oil are used in cooking and have mild stimulant effect, it is also anti-fungal. Bay-leaf wreaths are used in Wiccan rituals.


Bergamot

Bergamot is associated with planet Mercury, element of Air/East and Goddess Fortuna and God Hermes. It is used in luck and curse-breaking spells. Bergamot is antiseptic, tea with honey can be used to treat colds, low fevers and sore throats.


Camomile

Camomile is associated with planet Mercury and element of Water/West and God Cernunos. It is also sacred to all Egyptian deities. It is used in health spells especially about calmness, in luck spells and during meditation. Camomile tea is used as a mild sedative, it cures insomnia and eases stomach aches, especially during menstruation. A cool tea can ease teething problems for babies, it is also anti-inflammatory and can be used as ointment on skin and it can heal sun burns. Camomile tea can be also used as a tonic for other plants.


Cinnamon

Cinnamon is associated with Sun, element of Fire/South, Goddess Oshun and Gods Helios and Ra. It is used in love and lust spells, spells for power, success and knowledge. Cinnamon is an stringent, a stimulant and antiseptic. Cinnamon can be used to stop vomiting, it has antibacterial properties, it can help against diarrhea, lower cholesterol and reduce blood-sugar levels.


Chili

Chili is associated with planet Mars, element of Fire/South and Gods Mars, Aries and Vulcan and Goddess Durga. It is used in spells regarding lust, virility, excitement, new ideas and protection especially against evil spirits. Chili can ease pain, especially backache and reduces itching.

Hawthorn is associated with planet Mars, element of Fire/South and Goddess Lady Godiva. It is used in spells for wishes, fertility. lust and protection spells. It is also associated with fairy magic. Hawthorn is sacred to the Druids, it is used to decorate May poles and making magic wands. Tea out of hawthorn berries is used to improve circulation, to lower blood pressure and to treat insomnia. Syrup out of hawthorn berries is also used as a memory aid under stress. It can be used as substitute for coffee, tea and tobacco.


Irish Moss

Irish Moss is associated with planet Neptune, element of Water/West and Goddess Cerridwen and God Gwydion. It is used in spells for business success, gambling and good luck spells. Irish Moss can be used to stimulate appetite, heals the wounds, soothes a sore throat. It has lots of iron and can be added to salads, or added to other foods.


Jasmine

Jasmine is associated with Moon, element of Water/West and Goddess Venus. It is used in romantic love spells, during meditation and dream spells and fortune-telling. Jasmine tea can help with red or burning eyes, it can also be used as mouth wash. It is a great tonic for the skin, it can ease sun and wind burn. It can help to treat with dry and stressed skin. Jasmine is also great for depression.


Juniper

Juniper is associated with Sun, element of Fire/South and God Jupiter. It is used in spells to gain protection and psychic awareness. Juniper is also used to treat bladder and kidney problems. It can help with flatulence, indigestion and water retention. It can also help with blood circulation. It should be avoided during pregnancy.


Lavender

Lavender is associated with planet Mercury, element of Air/East and Goddess Aradia

It can be used in spells enhancing harmony, love and friendship, in relaxation and peace rituals. Lavender is used to treat muscle spasms, like eye twitches. Warm lavender baths can help with circulation, especially with cold feet and hands. It also helps with sleep and with most skin issues from oily skin to acne to inflammation and insect bites.

However the root and bark is extremely toxic, and should not be ingested.

Nutmeg is used to stimulate appetite, it prevents nausea and helps easier passage of food though intestinal tract. It can treat morning sickness, it can ease toothache and heal skin problems like eczema.


Patchouli

Patchouli is associated with planet Saturn, element of Earth/North and Goddess Gaia and God Pan. It is used in spells for fertility, virility, sexuality, divination and in money spells. Patchouli can be used to cover up other smells and to treat dry chapped skin, acne and varicose veins.


Peppermint

Peppermint is associated with planet Venus, element of Air/East and Goddess Aphrodite. It is used in spells for healing relationships, calming bad situations. It removes blockages, cleanses negativity, promotes positive emotions and is used in anti-jealousy spells. Peppermint is antispasmodic, it soothes the stomach after a big meal, against morning sickness and irritable bowels.


Rosemary

Rosemary is associated with Sun, element of Fire/South and God Zeus and Goddess Hera. It is used in spells for banishing negativity, protection, cleansing and purifying. It is a great all-around magic herb, excellent for memory spells. It is often burned to cleanse air around the altar just before doing spell work. Rosemary helps with circulation, can be helpful with hair loss problems and problems with dandruff. It contains a lots of iron and vitamin C, tea is great against cold. Rosemary should be avoided during pregnancy.


Sage

Sage is associated with planet Jupiter, with element of Earth/North, and Goddess Delphi or God Chiron. It is widely used in cleansing and smudging rituals, protection and wisdom spells and animal magic. Sage tea helps with flatulence and bloating. It has calming effect, helps against nervousness and anxiety. It heals skin, like insect bites, red skin or inflamed gums. It should be avoided when pregnant.


Vervain

Vervain is associated with planet Venus, element of Earth/North and Goddess Cerridwen, Isis and Kali. Vervain be used in protection and healing spells, spells for peace, psychic magic and magic to help children. The leaves and root can be used in a tea can have calming effect, can stop headaches, stop diarrhea or increase breast milk.
